With AutoCAD P&ID software, you can quickly create, edit, and validate piping and instrumentation design information with AutoCAD-based editing tools. In this course, discover how to leverage this powerful software to create a project-based piping and instrumentation diagram. Instructor Irene Radcliffe walks through the desktop environment and goes into the basic functions of the program. She explains how to locate and open a P&ID project, use the Project Manager function to create a new drawing, and build a new drawing by adding equipment, pipe lines, valves, and instrumentation. Irene also helps you understand how tagging works in P&ID, as well as how to use the Data Manager to manage the project database.

Topics include: • Setting up the P&ID workspace • Understanding the P&ID ribbon menu and tool palette • Using the AutoCAD properties dialog box • Creating P&ID drawing files • Inserting equipment and assigning tag information • Changing your P&ID layout • Inserting a valve on a pipe line • Adding instrumentation to your P&ID • Creating custom P&ID symbols • Adding and removing off-page connectors • Understanding tagging and annotation • Working with Data Manager • Working with the Data Validation tool. [Instructor] Hello and welcome to the AutoCAD P&ID Essential Training for Users. In this course we'll learn how to create a project-based piping and instrumentation diagram using this new work flow. We'll also learn the basic functions of the program, become familiar with the desktop environment and the methodology behind the new work flows.

I'll start by showing you how to open a project and then use the Project Manager function to create a new drawing. Then I'll show you how to build a new drawing by adding pipelines, equipments, valves, in-line components and instrumentation. In addition, we'll discuss tagging concepts and adding annotations to your drawings. Last but not least, we'll see how to use the Data Manager feature to view, filter and manage the project database and run those standard engineering reports. In this AutoCAD P&ID Essentials Training Course for Users, we'll be covering all these features, plus plenty of other tools and techniques. So, let's get started.

To make tag uniqueness a requirement for Piping Specialty Items you need to edit the project PnId SQL database by adding PipingingSpecialyItems to the PnPTagEnlistedColumns table: • Open the appropriate database • Open processpower.dcf (for P&ID) or piping.dcf (for Plant 3D) for a SQLite project with a SQLite Database browser or • Open PnID database (for P&ID) or Piping database for a SQL Server project with SQL Server Management Studio • Add a new row to the PnPBase table. • PnPID - add a value higher than the current maximum (8001 in example below) • PnPClassName - Enter PnPTagEnlistedColumns • PnPStatus and PnPRevision - set to 0 • PnPGUID - Enter a randomly generated GUID (GUID generators can be found online) • PnPTimeStamp - copy value from row above.
